Why You Need Lumineers for Your Teeth

Why You Need Lumineers for Your Teeth

When you have moderately crooked, chipped, discolored teeth, smiling is not an option. These dental problems not only damper your appearance, but left untreated can affect your oral health in general. Luckily, different dental solutions can help you address all these problems, such as veneers and bonding. However, if you want a noninvasive and painless dental procedure, Lumineers are your best option. Keep reading to learn more about Lumineers.

1. The Dental Fixtures Are Noninvasive

In the past, traditional veneers were conventional dental treatments for moderate dental problems like cracks and chips. However, the one disadvantage was they required reshaping your enamel to make room. Trimming of the enamel is an irreversible dental procedure, meaning the enamel will not grow back. Furthermore, you will need to use veneers or crowns forever because you can’t expose your teeth (they are extremely sensitive).

With Lumineers, you won’t worry about that. These ultra-thin shells are placed on the tooth surface and don’t need any alterations to the teeth.

2. They Only Require Two Dental Visits

Fixing the Lumineers needs two dental visits:

  • First visit

On your initial consultation, Dr. Shana Francois will perform a comprehensive dental exam and check your teeth for any decay and existing dental problems. If none exists, she will take an impression of your teeth and send the cast to the Lumineers laboratory. Unlike the veneers, you will not need any temporary Lumineers.

  • Second Visit

The second visit is scheduled a couple of weeks later, and it involves fixing the Lumineers. Before the dentist bonds them, she will check to ensure they are a good fit. The teeth are then roughened and etched to prepare them for bonding. The final look is examined to make sure there are no cracks or chips.

3. The Lumineers Fix a Range of Dental Problems

Lumineers are an excellent option for various dental conditions, and they offer great benefits too:

  • Brighten your smile

Teeth discoloration is common because of the over-consumption of tea, coffee, wine, and chocolate. Professional teeth whitening procedures are commonly used treatment. However, the results of the treatment don’t last for long. You will need regular teeth whitening, to keep the teeth white

Lumineers can offer a long-term solution for your discolored teeth. Once applied, your smile will remain bright for long.

Take note; at times, the dentist may perform teeth whitening before fixing the Lumineers because they are ultra-thin and may reveal the discoloration.

Remember also, Lumineers are stain-resistant, but they may get discolored due to neglect and the use of at-home bleaching treatments, among other factors. If you notice any discoloration on your Lumineers, visit the dentist for the proper treatment.

  • Eliminate unsightly gaps in your teeth

Diastemas are caused by an imbalance between the jaws and the teeth. Although sometimes considered harmless, large diastemas can be unattractive. Lumineers can help close the gap and restore your dental appearance.

  • Restore and align chipped and crooked teeth

Lumineers offer a painless alternative to dental bonding, which is commonly used for mild to moderate chipped and cracked teeth. Bonding is an effective dental solution, but it is not long-lasting.

These ultra-thin shells can also be used instead of braces.

Traditional braces are commonly used to align your teeth. However, for adults, Lumineers may offer the best solution as they are less painful and convenient.

  • Renew your dental restorations

If you have dental crowns and bridges that have started to stain, Lumineers can be fitted over them to restore the appearance. But, you need to discuss with the dentist about the use of Lumineers on your existing dental work.

4. Lumineers are Long-lasting

With proper dental care and hygiene, Lumineers can last for 20 years. You can, however, have them removed earlier. Lumineers treatment is reversible and can be removed at any time and still have your natural teeth intact.
